Since the festival began the family concert has been an essential part of the Corbridge Chamber Music Festival. Not only for children, we have heard adults describe it as the highlight of their festival!
.jpg) Performances in previous years have included the famous story by Prokofiev, Peter and the Wolf, Jean de Brunhof’s Babar the Elephant with music by Poulenc and our most treasured creation, the Russian Tale of Baba Yaga, set to excerpts of some of the finest chamber music of the early 20th century from Russia.
Our narrator John Gillespie has enthralled audiences every year with his performances. His experience as an English and Drama teacher at Gordenstoun school have brought insight and clarity to his interpretations as well as equipping him for those more rowdy moments!
As part of our commitment to the younger generation we visited St. Helen’s First School, Corbridge, to give a performance and initiate a drawing competition, the winner of which got to see their poster used as the advertisement for the concert. We have also given masterclasses and lessons to several budding students who were keen to come and play to us.
Come and enjoy this year’s performance of Babar the Elephant, so wittily set to music by Francis Poulenc.
